2017 Annual Holiday Food Outreach

​

Despite the rain events and ongoing typhoons, local volunteers and KHI Foundation Chairman of Outreach (Hazel Ann Salomon) successfully carried out the 2017 annual holiday food outreach on December 22 and December 26, 2017. One hundred thirty seven food bags were distributed to elderly, handicapped, and beneficiary families (total of approximately 550 people). Toys and presents were also provided to the children of the beneficiary families.

6.5 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Kananga

​

A 6.5 magnitude earthquake epicentered in Barangay Masarayao, a suburb of Kananga, Leyte, Philippines, occurred on July 6, 2017. Several structures collapsed, trapping victims and resulting in fatalities. The tremor also affected town-wide infrastructure, including the geothermal power industry located in Barangay Tongonan in Kananga. After shocks continue to this date.

Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda)

​

A Category 5 storm, known as Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), made landfall in the Provinces of Leyte and Samar in Central Philippines on November 8, 2013. With sustained winds of 315 kph (195 mph) and gusts as strong as 380 kph (235 mph), Haiyan was probably the strongest tropical cyclone to hit land anywhere in the world in recorded history. Wind gusts and storm surge ravaged the provinces, killing thousands of people, making the typhoon one of the strongest and deadliest typhoon of the country's central region history.

KHI Foundation Celebrates A Milestone

​

Officers, members, and volunteers offered a mass service for the completion of one major milestone and various outreach projects during its first 4 years in service. Fr. Jett Laurente, a Kananga native, celebrated the mass on September 16, 2017 in Newport Beach, California. KHI Foundation thanks all of their worldwide sponsors, members, and volunteers for their continued support and generosity through the years to the foundation's programs.
